Sometimes I have to round Arua Market only for checking out new stuff in the wax and vitenge section. I think this is one of the biggest wax and vitenge markets in Uganda. A lot directly imported from Congo.
It is not easy to find the entrance to this section of the market and I have got lost before. Start at the Pacific Hotel - on the road towards Congo.
These days the temperature is rising to around 40 degrees in the small corridors. The vitenge sellers are dozing off on their papyrus mats. But there is always a smile, a 'Karibu!' and a compelling sales talk ; -'Which one do you buy!'. Again, as you know - me and the Ugandans don't always agree on what is unique, nice, quality design - or for that matter what a good price is - so I take my time. However, I have never left empty-handed.

You are welcome! I know the feeling too well!! Happy to hear that it does something good in the UK ;-)

Hey, i love your blog. It is fantastic. I lived in Arua working for The Kids League Uganda in 2005. Your blog transported me away from a wet english day straight back to Uganda. I felt like hoping on a plane and coming straight back.
Keep blogging, if only to remind me of how fanatastic Uganda is
