On July 20 I made a list of events which within the past year in one way or the other had turned into a violent crisis/conflict/disaster inTanzania. Find it here.
My list was far from complete, and the list continues.
Last week a man was killed by police in Morogoro during a CHADEMA lead rally.
Both the two latter incidents have dealt with CHADEMA's M4C (Movement for Change) being launched nationally, and the police banning, and breaking it off.
Photos on Haki Ngowi blog from yesterday in Iringa Region speak of young men (basically no women) and h-e-a-v-i-l-y armed police.
The issue is undoubtedly far more complex than from what we can read on CNN or The Citizen - not to forget Twitter and Jamii Forum.
This is not just a basic question of the right to freedom of speech or partisan political tactics. It goes beyond, and there will be more of it come 2015.
