Have a look here for a couple of rough vox pops from last week in Kigoma.
When it comes to Tanzania, I've once again understood it retrospectively.
Until last week I did of course know of Bongo Flava Music, but to be honest I did not seriously recognise its impact, neither how much it means to the Tanzanians that there is such a strong popular culture guided by Kiswahili language and moods. I have personally been much more caught up in the 'new age African music', festivals a'la Sauti za Busara, but I learnt something new.
These Bongo Flava musicians are 'super stars' (as one of them so kindly cut it out for me), and the fact that this group took time out to go back to their home town Kigoma made a huge difference for a population who are living far off Daressalam's Bongo Flava vibes. Also for the musicians, who actually were surprised of the overwhelming reception they were up to.
