Skagafjörður. Where horses outnumber people

I'm in Skagafjörður at the moment, visiting my Icelandic family. Haven't been here since dark December 2007.

Skagafjörður is a fjord in Northern Iceland, situated between Tröllaskagi (Peninsula of giants) and Skagi. A quarter of area residents make their homes in the country, since Skagafjörður is one of Iceland's most prosperous agricultural regions, with widespread dairy and sheep farming in addition to the horse breeding for which the region is famed (Skagafjörður is the only county in Iceland where horses outnumber people in population). There are two counties by this fjord: The Skagafjörður county itself, and Akrahreppur. It is a centre of agriculture, and some fisheries are based in the towns of Sauðárkrókur and Hofsós. The people living in Skagafjörður have a reputation of choir singing, horsemanship, and gatherings.

There are three islands in the fjord: Málmey, Drangey and Lundey. All three visible in these photos.
